Sim card, fine if friend gets one for me?

Hi!
I’m doing a working holiday, and living at my (japanese) friends place. He said he can get an eSim for me with a really good deal and I just pay him.
Is this ok? I remember companies being very picky with sim card stuff when I studied here since they had a lot of scams or something some years ago.
If it’s legal it’s by far the best option I can find, just don’t wanna do something than can mean trouble if someone sees that it’s not technically my number.

Appreciate any advice!
All the best
Teo

  1. If he doesn’t mind that you may murder someone and your phone used as evidence and they find out the sim was his, then sure.

Anyway, absolutely nobody will ever know that the number isn’t “yours”.

  2. He is probably violating his agreement with the provider. You aren’t doing anything wrong.

Also assuming it is just a data sim I wouldn’t think much of it. I’ve lent my hotspot to visiting family members many times.

  3. If you can use esims on your phone why don’t you just use a service like Ubigi where you can buy prepaid short term plans for pretty much any country in the world?
