Okinawa typhoon situation

Anyone in Okinawa right now? What’s the situation like?

I was planning a trip to go to Okinawa tomorrow, but my flight MIGHT be cancelled because of the typhoon.

But from the looks of it, it might also NOT be cancelled. However I don’t even know if it’s worth going now since it seems like it’s going to rain all day + strong winds/waves when I’m there.

Was really looking forward to doing a bunch of water sports

  1. Looking at the weather radar, it seems the worst will pass today, but there could still be substantial rain tomorrow. Maybe by Monday it will clear up.

  2. It’s shitty now and even when the rain passes the oceans going to be churning for days until the wind dies down. When the sun comes out going to be extra humid with all the rainfall. If me and I could cancel, I would. Too many other cool things to do in Japan (if your a tourist) to come here and be disappointed.

  3. You should also check if your accommodation has electricity and is reachable. Lots of places with no power and blocked roads.

There will be no surfing/diving/snorkeling/jet-skiing/etc until early next week. Monday would surprise me, Tuesday is likely, Wednesday seems probable.

If you can cancel on your insurance, do so.

  4. I know somebody who were supposed to leave Okinawa LAST WEEK but he got held up. His flights keeps getting cancelled but he finally able to left yesterday. So I suggest you see how the weather is going to be for the next few days. But I wouldn’t risk it. Better safe than sorry.

  5. My flights were supposed to leave oki tomorrow for Manila but have already been rescheduled for Monday.

  6. I didn’t have power for over 70 hours. We are currently, in my area, under landslide warning. It’s going to be messy and in clean up mode for a while.
