Itinerary Check – 15 days – Christmas/New Year’s – Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara

Hi!

First-time poster on such a big sub-Reddit. My partner and I (mid-20s) are heading over to Japan over the Christmas/New Year’s period this year for about 13 days (not including fly days). From the title, we are heading to Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara.

My main concern are the dates around New Year if there are places that are not open that I listed for those dates. I am interested in renting a Kimono, but not too sure if those places are open around the New Year’s period, I know there are some that close from 30th December – 1st January, but is the case for all Kimino rental shops? I guess, where and when would be the best area and time to rent one during this period?

  1. I get that it’s nice to just relax at a Ryokan but if you visit Hakone I really recommend the round trip. At least if you stay in Gora. If you stay in Yumoto then it depends on how much time you want to spend because its another 45 minutes by train up the mountain.
