Another internet question

Moved into new rental.

Internet is proved to all residents by one provider. Just plug in router to the phone Jack and it’s ready to go.

ucom hikari residence

Plan: Condominium collective introduction plan
Speed: 1G to the common area of the apartment, 1G from the common area of the apartment to the room

Does this mean I should expect up to 1GB in my room?
Or is 1GB shared between the 7 or so units on each floor?

So far on the first 2 days i geta max of 92gb download and about 85gb upload.

Does that sound about right?
Anything I can do to increase the speeds?

  1. mansion type sounds like you’re on VDSL in the room so you’ll be on 100M/100M max. And i think you meant 92M/85M down/up in your test. Which is pretty damn good for VDSL.

The 1gb is likely shared between all the units.

  2. Be aware the GB and gb/Gb mean two different things. GB (large B) means gigaBYTE which means you need a 10gbit connection to pass 1GB/sec traffic (approximate).

Are you sure about 92gb download? Is this gb or mb?
Search “internet speed test” and run it and post the numbers here. You can choose multiple speed tests and they should all be close.

  3. Thanks all.

Yeah my mistake, I meant 93/85 MB in my room.

Sounds like it’s VDSL and my speeds are what I should expect. From the plan name ‘1gb’ was hoping for better (200-400 MB like my previous place).

Never mind, will have to accept that 100 Mb is the max I’ll get.
