Do Japanese Language schools always ask for full tuition payment before a CoE can be sent to you?

The title of the post is the question. In your experience, did you have to pay in full before a CoE can be sent to you?

The school seems legitimate. They are listed in the Ministry of Justice of Japan’s registry, I contacted them through their website, have seen their office on Google maps, and I have found a few of their staff on LinkedIn. I have seen reddit posts about them as well. The problem is they ask for full payment up front before I can receive a CoE, so before I can even apply for a visa, I have to pay thousands of dollars and a CoE is not even a guarantee of getting a Visa from my understanding. That makes me a little uneasy.

  2. I’ve only dealt with one school but that was my experience as well. However, the school had a well written policy for refunds so if my visa was denied I would have gotten the tuition money back

  3. My experience was they only requested the document processing fee(~20-30000 JPY) beforehand. Once they received my CoE from the immigration office, my school asked me to pay for 6 months of tuition even though I had applied to study for 1.5 years.
