I’ll be taking a solo trip to Hokkaido on October 7 (a Saturday) and leaving on the 14th. I plan to use the JR Hokkaido rail pass to cover most of my travels. Hotels are booked, so I’m mostly checking on whether I’m doing too much here (I don’t plan to drive). I think my biggest concern is still day 4 – trains don’t run as frequently especially when the sun sets, it seems.
Each day’s itinerary goes down chronologically.
**Day 1 (arrive at 3pm-ish) – Sapporo**
* Check in
* JR Tower Observatory
* Checking out Sapporo Station
**Day 2 – Otaru**
* Breakfast at Sankaku market
* Otaru canal (approx 1.5-2 hours)
* Bank of Japan Otaru Museum (if time allows)
* Lunch at Otaru Masazushi
* Otaru Orgel and surrounding areas
* Otaru canal at nightfall
* Dinner then back to Sapporo
**Day 3 – Very little Sapporo + Obihiro**
* Hokkaido University Gingko Avenue
* Train to Obihiro
* Lunch at Butadon PANCHŌ
* Obihiro racecourse
* Dinner at Rokkatei
* Train back to Sapporo
**Day 4 – Asahikawa + Biei**
* Asahiyama zoo
* Train to Biei
* Lunch at Biei
* Zerubu Hill + Tree of Ken & Mary + Hokusei-no-oka Observatory Park
* Biei train to Asahikawa
* Dinner at Asahikawa and back to Sapporo
**Day 5 – Sapporo**
* Hokkaido Government office & Botanic Garden
* Sapporo Clock Tower
* Lunch, likely Sapporo ramen
* Odori Park & Sapporo TV Tower
* Susukino & Tanuki Koji
* Mount Moiwa
* Back to Susukino for dinner, likely Genghis Khan/Jingisukan
**Day 6 – Onuma and Hakodate**
* Check out and take the train down south
* Onuma (including lunch but no idea where yet)
* Train to Hakodate
* Check in
* Old public hall area
* Ropeway to Mount Hakodate
* Dinner
**Day 7 – Hakodate + Noboribetsu**
* Breakfast at Hakodate morning market + check out, leave luggage in Hakodate station/hotel
* Goryukaku
* Lunch at Lucky Pierrot
* Train to Noboribetsu with luggage in tow
* Check in, check out Noboribetsu area
**Day 8 – Noboribetsu + flight out**
* Check out
* Noboribetsu area
* Bus to New Chitose airport, arrive by approx 1300
* Flight is approx 1630
