Question about wedding stuff

I got an invited by an old friend to attend his wedding. I don’t know the bride and am frankly not expecting to know too many other people there, but I’ll go because it’s a decent excuse to travel and go see him again.

Any general advice? I’ve never been to a wedding in my life before, so it can be for general stuff or Japan-specific. They’re asking for ¥19,000 in the invitation, which I don’t really mind, but am I supposed to bring anything on top of that?

If it matters, this is an all-Japanese wedding, it’s not an international/mixed situation. Help me out here.

  1. Never seen a price written on the invitation. Maybe because you’re travelling? However, it would be usual to gift ¥30,000 for close friends or co-workers, and those who traveled would receive a thank you gift of cash to help cover the travel expenses. That’s been my experience at least. How was the ¥19,000 request worded?
