Domestic flight with working VISA

Hello,

I’m living in Kyoto and got a working visa for 1 year, for the duration of my internship here.
Last week I planned a small vacation to Ishigaki, Okinawa. I’m flying from KIX to Ishigaki.

My only concern is that I will have problems at the airport because of my working visa.
I looked online if I need a re-entry pass, but since it’s a domestic flight, this is technically not needed.
I am also wondering if my residence card would be enough to take the plane, I will take my passport from my home country with me aswell to be sure.
Any tips or experiences with flying domestic with a working visa?

I will be flying with peach airlines.

Thank you in advance!

  1. Re-entry permit is only for when you leave the country. Yes, your residence card will be enough for almost everything inside Japan. They usually only ask for passport because they think you’re a tourist but will actually prefer your residence card.

From personal experience I can say that domestic airlines (especially Peach etc.) do not even check for your residence card though as long as you have your booking reference number.

  2. Just bring your residence card (for ID wherever you need it) and your ticket. They don’t check IDs usually since a lot have the self checking machines. No reentry permit etc needed.

I used to be worried if I needed to bring extra ID also. But have flown domestically a few times now. Try to think of a domestic flight ticketing process more like a Shinkansen ticketing process. That’s what my husband said and it helped.

  3. You don’t need international travel docs for domestic flights. Just keep your residency card with you, as you are required to do while in Japan. I don’t recall ever having my ID checked on a domestic flight.
