Airplane seating acommodation

Hi, I just bought some plane tickets to go to Europe with my wife and our toddler son who is currently two and a half years old. I skipped the option of choosing the seats because it increased the price by over 60,000 yen on already pretty expensive flight tickets, but now I’m worried about how we will be seated. I can still choose the seats, but I’d like to have as much information before I make a decision. I’m guessing that they will put at least one of us with our son, as it’s probably forbidden to place a toddler away from his parents, but what are the chances that we will be seated together? Does anybody have experience with this? The airline is Turkish Airlines.

  1. I have heard they generally try to keep people booked on the same confirmation number together if possible.

  2. If you call the airline up, I’m sure they’ll confirm or accommodate you both sitting next to each other. I did that with Malaysia Airlines. They charge for selected seating online, but on the phone I explained we had a 6 month old child with other kids, and the lady was understanding and helped me book seats to ensure we were together.

  3. I tried this with JAL. We could do a web check-in 24 hours before the flight and at that time we could choose our seats. There were not many seats left, but there were some options for us. Maybe Turkish Airlines has a similar policy. Check your ticket information.

  4. No guarantees, but your best bet is to arrive at the airport quite early before check in opens to be ahead of other people on the line, and ask the check in staff to seat you together

  5. Don’t fly with Air France absolutely diabolical!!
I’ll never fly with them again

  6. If you talk to the boarding agent at the airport before you board they can sometimes move you around so you can sit together. One time I had chosen seats with me and my daughter and husband, but then something happened and they had to change the entire aircraft for the flight and our seats just got randomly assigned but when I spoke to them they were able to move us together again.
