How do I not accidentally poison myself when cleaning

Can anyone please give me a run down on what products NOT to mix when cleaning my bathroom here in Tokyo? It’s been a second since I cleaned so I was using kabi killer and grabbed one that is specifically for grout and started to use that too when I remembered that the lady who helped me find it told me not to use it while cleaning with anything else and quickly washed it a way and stepped out for the fumes to dissipate pait. But that finally made me realize I have know idea what’s in the products I’m using…. Also what’s a good cleaning product for maintenance cleaning the bathroom like once a week? Thanks!

  1. Never mix cleaning products?

I’ve never ever mixed any type of cleaning product with anything but water if required and always ventilate.

If you need to use multiple products always use one, follow the directions for sitting & rinsing, use other product after. Most products are designed to use as-is anyways. You don’t need to play mad chemist in the bathroom.

  2. Don’t mix 塩素系漂白剤 (chlorine bleach) with anything to not get killed by chlorine gas.
塩素系漂白剤 have a warning label on them I think.

I’m neurotic about the same thing and I simply do not mix anything and only use basic soaps for everything.

  3. Just…don’t mix ANYTHING. Rinse everything really well before cleaning with anything else or do on a different day. Like use the mold killer one day then use regular cleaning spray the next.

  4. Weekly cleaning, any generic bathroom cleaner like Scurbbing Bubbles or whatnot. Or if you want a super cheap alternative, baking soda. You can buy it in kg bags in the cleaning aisles (重曹 jūsō), mix it 2:1 with water to make a paste and rub gently into all surfaces with a soft sponge, rinse thoroughly with water. You can also run hot water down the drain, then dump a few tablespoons of baking soda down and leave for 10-15min to keep drains clear. Again, just rinse thoroughly with water after.

  5. Bottles containing a product that should not be mixed with other chemicals should have an obvious “まぜるな危険” warning label on them in yellow and red letters. If you google the phrase, you will get examples.

According to this, in fact, this label is compulsory by law. https://www.caa.go.jp/policies/policy/representation/household_goods/guide/zakka/zakka_06.html

Best piece of advice though is, as others have said, avoid mixing products altogether.

  6. I do my regular cleaning on one day, then use the mold killer the next day, and use a home made vinegar solution the day after that. Just don’t mix anything.
