So unfortunately I got a new iphone 14 in the US right before leaving for Japan. It’s locked still so I can’t add another esim on it.
I just need a cheap phone, I don’t care if it’s used. I’ve been in Japan for almost a month now. My employer has been letting me use their number basically for everything so far.
I’ll be honest my japanese isn’t great so I’m just gonna go the safe route and go with sakura mobile as my carrier. But I still need to buy a phone somewhere.

I unlocked my phone in about 2 minutes using AT&Ts website. Might want to look into unlocking the phone as that might be an easy option.
Rakuten mobile will give you(1yen) a free phone if you sign with them – Its not one of the fancy phones but I believe it will work well enough as a phone if you just want a backup

secondhand ones – go to secondhand stores such as janpara, or iosys

janpara – had excellent luck with them, my current phone is from there, you usually get 14 days or so to bring it back if you have issues with it.
