Like imagine if you could rotate through the functions of alt+` (english/kana), alt+caps (katakana), and ctrl+caps (hiragana) just by quickly slapping shift+caps. It’s so awkward doing finger gymnastics when you could just cycle between the 3.
Are there any non ghetto keyboards outside of microsoft and google IME that have decent customization?
I’ve tried making an autohotkey script to edit the hotkeys but for whatever reason it stops working when I switch away from the english keyboard.

Not really. Your only options would most likely be to buy a more expensive gaming keyboard that has extra keys you can bind commands of your own choosing to, or buy an actual Japanese keyboard to use.
I’m a bit confused on why you are having to cycle often enough for this to be an issue, but you can convert your text from hiragana to katakana with f7. f6 will take it back to hiragana.
