I just moved here a few days ago and I’m trying to get down to Tokyo next week. I bought a ticket at a shinkansen kiosk for the first time, and it looked like I had selected the right things, but when it printed my ticket, it printed 4 sheets.
2 of them say just the names of the cities, while the other 2 say “Tokyo ward” and “_ city”. Only one of them has my return date on it, and none say the times I picked. What do I do with these? 😅

You can get Google translate app which shows you a translation of writing if you take a picture of it.
I would imagine two are tickets and two are receipts for tickets though.
Tickets for Shinkansen has two separate part: the basic fare (乗車券) and express fare (新幹線特急券). So two of them per direction, 4 for round-trips.
Did you select non-reserved seating (自由席)? If you have non-reserved seating ticket, it’s valid for any train on that day.
Technically stops along the way can be considered transfer, regardless if you disembark. For example. I used to take a train from my house to Osaka but had to pass through Kyoto station. So I had a ticket from my house/local station to Kyoto. Then Kyoto to Osaka. But I never got off the train.
Other thing is. Did you buy a round trip? Some might be tickets for the way back.
Did you buy a ticket from a regular JR station to your Shinkansen destination, or did you buy one between two Shinkansen stations, or regular station-shinkansen station-you destination station?
Would be best to post images to get a clear answer for what you got. You can censor your home area if needed.
