Is there anywhere in Tokyo I can physically go on the same day to dispose of luggage?

1. If you wash it, some NPO charity shops might take it. Also, depending on which ward/city you are resident in, there may be a place where you can drop off large trash that’s open on Saturday afternoons. The one closest to where we live, though, closed at noon, I think.

2. Put it I side a big trash bag and throw it away on the next sodaigomi day ?

3. I had a cheap Chinese suitcase (carry-on size) break wheels while on a trip outside of my usual area, so I walked to Apita mall, went into a suitcase shop there (forgot name, but most likely any mall/department store will have at least one), picked a new suitcase and asked if I can empty/leave my broken one for disposal. They said yes, I bought the new one, moved my stuff into it, and let them keep the old one.

4. Schedule Sodai Gomi as soon as possible. Until they just seal it up in a trash bag.

5. If you have hand sanitizer, spray or wipe the suitcase with it.

   Not sure what the weather’s like in Tokyo today, but direct sunlight will also get rid of the mold.

6. Alcohol spray the inside, put it out with 不燃on the appropriate day.

7. Tamagawa River?

   1. Connect to your local kuyakusho, set a date, go buy the stickers, and just stick it wherever they throw garbage.
   2. Destroy it and put it in some bags. You may need some tools for this. Done it for futon, a couch, and friend’s bed.

8. If you live in a bigger size mansion and they have a dedicated space for throwing away large items, schedule a day for a pick up and talk to your mansion’s care taker to see if you can bring it down much earlier and put it there with the sticker already affixed. Mine has no issues with that

9. Several districts (if not all) do allow you to bring the stuff to the collection centre by yourself. It is also cheaper since you do most of the work yourself.

   Check this site and select your district. You should be looking for specifically the option here you bring it to the waste collection site (ごみ持込申込).

   Be aware that you will need to apply for in advance. You can’t just show up. I never used this service but I think you can probably do this same day or next day the fastest.
