>The Robot Restaurant succeeded because, particularly at night (which, as I have written, arrives much too early), even in the capital, your choices are limited — especially if you don’t drink alcohol
Have to say I’ve never thought that tourists have their work cut out at night, even if they don’t drink alcohol. What do you want? When I’m on a city vacation I will usually walk and walk and walk all day and then at night I’m just looking for food and drink.
Tokyo surely doesn’t have a lack of options at night anyway? You can eat whatever the fuck you want, karaoke, onsen, game centres, cinemas, bowling, go to any number of interesting nightlife areas (even if you don’t drink). The department stores stay open relatively late. Or is the problem that tourists are too limited by language to do these things???
Again though, I’ve never known tourists to do that much more at night than eat and drink.
What a confusing statement.
Guy is mad because Sumo hasn’t become a tacky tourist trap catering for foreigners.
literally the first time in my life I’ve heard anyone say there’s not enough to do in Tokyo.
If the author wants to have tourist experiences similar to London, New York or Paris, they are free to visit any of those cities.
If bro wanted something more traditional than go-karts he could’ve just gone to Asakusa, rented a kimono/yukata and ride in a rickshaw.
Wtf I was never bored in Japan, even in small towns in the middle of nowhere. What is this guy expecting?
Seems to have completely neglected sport?
There’s baseball at night half of the year, lots of basketball the rest of the year, fighting sports, pro wrestling.
“…attracting Instagrammers and YouTubers” made my marrow freeze.
This article is insane. I was in Japan for two weeks and had a 2 page list of things I didn’t get to do when I left, many of which could easily be tackled at night. I’m sure I will walk away with a list close to the same size after my next trip
You have to be an extremely boring and imaginative person to be bored in Japan. Just in Tokyo there is a lifetime of new experiences to enjoy. Broaden your horizon and interests and the world opens up to you.
He’s asking for more sumo but didn’t mention the fact that baseball is usually played 6 days a week. 2 teams in central Tokyo, and 3 more within an hour. Also the J league. Sports are certainly an option
I’ve lived in and around Tokyo for the better part of a decade and still like I’ve just scratched the surface.
