5 day Tokyo Trip Itinerary Check for first time Japan Travelers

Hi everyone! Wife and I are travelling to Tokyo for our much belated “honeymoon” due to us having Covid wedding. This will be our first time in Japan and its going to be one half of our trip so we’ll be flying in to Narita on the last leg of our vacation as our flight back home will be in Haneda International airport.

Our trip will be on the last week of September and will only stay for 5 nights max. Our itinerary so far are these ones below and need help if they make sense since we have no idea what’s in the area. We decided that for this trip will just indulge ourselves in food, drinks and a few sight seeing as we’re casual travellers that dont fret if we dont do alot of activities when travelling.

Day 1
– arrive in Haneda airport (afternoon)
– check in at a hotel in Hanzomon
– National Museum of Modern Art
– Dinner (somewhere nearby)

Day 2
– Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park (morning)
– Harajuku’s Takeshita Street (Lunch)
– Shibuya in the afternoon and dinner

Day 3
– Tsukiji Outer Market (early morning)
– TeamLab Planets ( 11 am tickets)
– Ginza ( lunch and afternoon)

Day 4
– Akihabara (morning and lunch)
– Asakusa’s Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street (afternoon)
– Sumida River Cruise ( is this worth it?)
– Asakusa (dinner)

Day 5
– check out and travel to Narita International to fly out of Japan

Return trip
Day 6
– afternoon arrival in Narita International
– staying at a hotel in Haneda airport since our flight out is the next day.

Open to suggestions to make our trip/itinerary better. Please and thank you!

  1. Maybe I suck at reading but I am not sure I understand what’s going on day 5 and day 6 with Narita and Haneda. Otherwise your itinerary looks nice…not too crazy.
The sumida river cruise is fun. You’ll be looking mostly at river facing apartment buildings and going under some large amount of bridges, but it’s fun.

  2. Whoa, I created the same itinerary like your Day2-4, OP! But I made Asakusa morning and Akihabara in the evening instead.
