  1. No idea about the context, it’s something I pulled from a novel.

    Below is dialogue, but what does the stuff in〔〕do? Are they being spoken by the character along with the other stuff in the「」?

    > 「まったく醜悪きわまる奴だ。平たい額を見れば蛇〔狡智〕、丸くふくらんだ頭を見ればハゲタカ〔強欲〕、とがった鼻を見ればノスリ〔馬鹿〕と、一目見てわかるではないか」

    I searched for a non-dialogue line with〔〕in the same text and found the below. Here, the〔〕seems to be clarifying what ムラサキウマゴヤシ is, right? Is this usage of〔〕different from the above?

    > わずかにムラサキウマゴヤシ〔牧草の一種〕が生えていて

  2. What is a good retention rate for new cards in anki? When I tried to look it up I only found stuff talking about mature cards.
