Was walking around thrifting around Kōenji and had a curry craving! So from every other Indian food I’ve had the ratio of Naan to Curry was so strange! The taste of the curry was actually super good which made me mad I had to sparingly eat it with a huge rip of naan. Over all good experience except for the same exact dubstep hindi song playing over and over and over again. Just curious if this is a common experience of Indian restaurants in Japan or if this was an extra unique place?

That’s about similar to my experience. My local place has slightly larger bowls of curry (maybe 25% more?) and offers a third one for a few more yen. You also find lost of half/half options with a mini-naan and rice.
Yes, they’re pretty stingy. We took some friends from Japan to an Indian buffet in the US, and we were perplexed that they were mainly scooping sauce/gravy into their plates. They were accustomed to receiving mostly sauces in Japan, with maybe a single piece of chicken or a single meatball with their set meals.
Pretty much. You also get free Naan refills at many places, and the god awful biryani made with Japanese koshihikari rice. Where is my damn basmati
Oh weird, from the comments below seems like this usual, but every time I had Indian in Tokyo it was quite nice and not stingy. Similar portions to the UK or NA.
That looks normal for Japan. I think the one that stands out to me was owned by a Bengali family, but the pandemic sadly put them out of business. That one had a more manageable naan-to-curry ratio.
All the Indian places I have eaten in Japan has been much better than that. A little smaller than what I was used to in the US with a good amount of meat and sauce but really no complaints.
Yes.. they love Indian food in Japan.
I’ve had Indian food in Takamatsu and it was a more than generous serving. Naan about that size but a near football sized dish of whatever meat and sauce you ordered. Quite worth the meager price I’d pay for it. It was my Sunday night meal as most other places were closed.
I used to go to a place in Tokyo a lot called Himalaya Curry, very close to Sangubashi station. I remember that place having more curry than what you posted, but still quite a bit smaller than what you would you get in the US.
Mmmmmmmmmm
Yeah they like curry it’s crazy
