Planning to build a house

Hello,

I’m want to build a house and I would like to hear everyone’s input/advice from their experiences. I currently live in Saitama but I want to build the house in Tokyo due to work.

I talked to Sekisui and Ichijo today. Sekisui seemed more intered in helping me meet all the house requirements I had while Ichijo basically said we’re number 1 in solar, insulation, etc.

Are any of those companies good? Do anyone recommend any local builders? The main things I care about the house is to have solar (I have an EV) a western oven, good insulation, soundproofing, have my own pc/tech room and a garage

I wanted central air but I’ve read that it’s too expensive and takes too much space. My wife was interested in floor heating but I read that it’s a pain once you have to tear the floor up and they usually last 20 years

  1. This thread has been started a hundred times before. Search here and then search on Google. And then search on Google in the local language.

Tons of blogs and tweets out there.

  2. Go to a furniture shop and take a look at things you could imagine in your new home, use the measurements to build the room around those items.

Central aircon or passive aircon is good. Winter can be little pricey though.

Western style dishwasher in the kitchen.

Think about the rooms you’ll use the most and invest in them. Kitchen/bathroom etc

  3. Have you visited the Sekisui demo neighborhood?? It is like a Disneyland for designing an home. Very cool, even if you don’t choose them. I like them though.

  4. Make sure to get an OM Solar type roof fitted, it will keep your house warm and toasty in the winter and cool it down a bit in the summer. It will also make hot water for you or get an MMC Solar water heater.

If your EV has a Chademo plug go for a V2H, either normal or tri-brid.
