Is this much pay way too little?

I have a job interview, The pay is 1500 yen per hour. Accommodation is twin room for 30000 yen per month (also seems like a lot). We get a 600 yen meal allowance on days we work. At the end, we get a 60000 yen bonus.

I talked to the lady and she said each month staff members got around 100,000 yen per month after taking out money for tax ,insurance, accommodation, etc last year. She said it ended up being about 50% of pay salary after taking out.

This job is at a ski resort. The 60000 is for lift pass which is about 50%. I am obviously doing this for the experience so I don’t mind little pay, but this was less than I expected.

What do more experienced people say?

  2. How many hours per week is it? Are they paying health insurance, pension etc? It isn’t much but I’m guessing you’re not going to the ski resort job for the pay so that’s how it goes

  3. Same here! I wonder as its first time for me working in ski resort. I have 1400 yen pay, 26000 yen for twin room, free pass, full set of social insurance enrolment(dont really know what that really mean) and some discounts products owned within the group. No meal allowance for me tho hah 😀

  4. >staff members got around 100,000 yen per month after taking out money for tax ,insurance, accommodation, etc

That is ***not*** a lot of money. After you factor in a mobile plan, extra food (snacks and additional meals), and going out a bit you’re likely to end up more in the ~60,000/month range. That’s not a lot of disposable income, and isn’t going to allow much (if any) traveling outside your local area.

  5. After doing math isn’t it too low? You should earn 240000yen before taxes, tax is 20% so 192000 yen after taxes minus accommodation = 162000yen? You said they paid for the insurance so its kinda weird or im missing something?

  6. Where are you going? I am in a well known ski town. I think people around here get a bit more but not much. All the ski bums come because they love it, not much concern about much else with them.

  7. I don’t think it’s that bad, frankly, if you’re just coming for the experience. Most new English teacher recruits are getting that or a bit less these days and it’ll be more varied and interesting with no unpaid preparation time or commute, no? And it’s seasonal so not a long term life move?
