NOVA Saturday payment?

Yes I know NOVA is awful and normally I wouldn’t work here but I was offered a Saturday position and need some extra cash. I was wondering if anyone has working experience with them on weekends. The pay range given is very wide and depends on the lessons. I’m just looking a for a concrete number if possible. Its from 9:30am -5:30pm every Saturday.

  1. You wont get a concrete number. Its like a zero hour contract. You are paid for the lessons that you teach. It could be one at 9am and one at 7pm, with nothing in the middle. You still only get paid for two classes.

  2. I want to consider working in Japan but teaching there seems garbage.
For that sorr of job you might as well cut the middleman and teach privately

  3. It might depend on the location. If you’re in a decent size city they’ll probably be able to fill your entire Saturday. And if that’s the case they’d be happy to pay you 1500 to 2000/hr because you don’t have all the other costs of a regular employee.

    Just ask them.

  4. The only concrete lessons you’ll get, is if you regularly teach kids classes at the same school and then get regular adult students who specifically want you each Saturday.

  5. If they can’t assure you of 8 to 10 lessons, each lasting 40 minutes, on a Saturday, then they aren’t worth your time. You shouldn’t work for them. Saturdays are crucial earning days for part-time teachers. You should expect to earn between ¥1,700 & ¥2,200 for a 40-minute online lesson. For in-person private lessons, the rate should be ¥2,500 or more, and even higher for group sessions. Don’t accept less and make sure to shop around.

  6. The way Nova’s system works its impossible to give you a concrete number. It all depends on the amount of students in the class, which will change every lesson since most students are free to book when they want to come.

A good day with fully booked kids classes might see you net about 1,800 a lesson. But even then it depends on which contract you take.

  7. Wait a second now I’m confused. I was offered a part time job working two weekdays and a full day on Saturday. Are my lessons no guarantees? Nova said I had a guaranteed number of lessons.

  8. Saturday and Sunday are the most hectic. Usually a lot of packed kids classes. It’s the only day I find a bit exhausting but overall the job is pretty chill. How much you get paid depends on your contract. I don’t advice the independent contract. You get paid more per lesson but get nothing if someone cancels or doesn’t book a lesson. Also no insurance or pension cover.
