I’m translating a manga and I ran into a line I didn’t fully understand.
She says, [“髪がタバコになる”](https://imgur.com/a/4RTt7Ja), which I interpret as, “My hair is going to smell like smoke”. I just feel like it’s a weird way of saying it. I would have expected, “髪がタバコ臭くなる” or something to that effect. Could it just be a more childish way of saying it?
Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like she’s just saying something silly like a child would say.
It’s similar to how people say something like 舌がバカ(になる), which doesn’t mean that the tongue becomes “an idiot” but either that someone can’t taste (maybe due to eating something super spicy) or that they have an unrefined palate.
