?What Academic pursuit in Japan should I go to for video game development

I’m thinking of applying to the **MEXT** scholarship for undergraduate (*this is my last year of highschool*) and I want to study abroad in **Japan**, I’ve always wanted to become a *game developer* and **Japan** is pretty much the heart of video games in the world, and I wouldn’t like to study game dev anywhere else other than **Japan**, it’s just *the place* for it you know. But I’m confused on which university should I go to.
I’m thinking of studying **computer science** to become a **software engineer** or something (*But don’t mind self studying other stuff at the same time like art or music production in my free time cause at some point I’d like to go indie*) so that I can later specialize in games, but I have no idea where to start. What are the in depth steps to become a **game dev** in **Japan**? Which university has **the best game dev program**? Do I have to study only one thing like **programming** or are there programs with more stuff to learn like **art, music, game planning, etc?**

*I know that your portfolio matters more than your university*, but still what are some good career paths I could take (*or ones*) to support my journey. I took a look at Kyoto University and it seems pretty nice (*I like the city as well*), is that a good choice, or is there **a more specific university** I should look into. After I go to a university and say spent like 3 years studying computer science or something **what should I do next academically** until I’m ready to become a **game developer at big names like Nintendo** or something. Can you please give me all the info I need? Or at least reliable sources for where to do more research?

Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate your help since game dev in Japan is my dream.

  2. Study at the highest ranked university as possible. University name goes a long way in Japan.

You should study computer science or something related.

Your highest priority should be language, not specific skills. Getting a Bachelor in Japan to get a normal job is a gamble on whether you can be fluent in Japanese one year before you graduate (that is when job hunting starts for new grads). If you aren’t fluent, plan to go home, continue to a Masters, or go into a different field.

Also, join the game development circle, probably most schools have one.

  3. This little shit thinks he can actually crack it in the big leagues. First thing kid- you’re so insanely wrong about game development and being an actual game designer working for a big one like Nintendo or any of the other corps that exist is a pipe dream alright. You won’t make it there. I can guarantee it. You’re a fucking child who has a immature dream of cracking it in the big leagues. You will not get into a college there. You probably can barely make it into one in your own shithole of a country. Don’t do it. You won’t make it. Just crawl back to your hole and cope with the fact that people like you don’t ever succeed
