1st time Japan w/ 13yo 10 days Tokyo – Osaka – Okinawa

I entered my must see places into chatGPT for our 10 day trip. Just want to check with the experts here to see if it’s a realistic itinerary. We would love to fly to Okinawa but I’m not sure if that seems realistic given the 10 day itinerary.

We want to do a few touristy things, but mostly there for the culture, food, coffee, and Japanese denim.
Musts:

* Geishas
* Samurai’s
* Nature
* Japanese massage
* Great sushi!
* Kobe beef
* Onsen
* Mt Fuji

I would love to see the Chicano culture in Japan if that’s in a neighborhood.

Any recommendations and suggestions greatly appreciated for the itinerary below.

Nov 21 – Arrive Narita 2:45pm and transfer to Shinjuku

Nov 21-23 explore Tokyo and Shinjuku area.

Is this where boogie coffee is?
Places to visit: Harajuku, Tsukiji Market, Shibuya crossing.

Nov 24 – Travel to Kanazawa

Visit Chaya district
Would love to experience a tea ceremony with a geisha, samurai experience for the 13 yo.

Nov 25 – Travel to Osaka
Nov 26 – Osaka

Places to visit:
* Dotonbori
* Shitenno-Ji

Is Osaka where we can shop Japanese denim?

Nov 27 – Spend day in Kyoto

Places to Visit:
* Kinkaku-ji
* Fushimi Inari
* Arashiyama Bamboo grove

Nov 28 – Fly to Okinawa
Tokashiki island

Nov 29 – fly to Narita
Nov 30 flight leaves to LAX at 2:45pm (no flight from Okinawa on 11/30 that arrives before 2:45pm)

I also used a few of the Japan rail apps, and most are saying that the JR pass is not worth its value for the things that we want to do and see. What’s the alternative?

  1. I think your trip is too short to try to stuff all that in. you will only be getting surface level enjoyment out of the trip. Mount Fuji is like 2+ hours away from Tokyo, which would eat up pretty much 1 whole day. I would leave Okinawa out entirely cause it looks like you aren’t even spending 24 hours there. I’ve done 3 trips with each trip being longer than the last and still feel like 2 weeks in Tokyo wasn’t enough.
