Cockroach problem, advice needed

Came back from a 2 month holiday, evening, found a dead cockraoch in the washing machine. Next morning, found one live on my desk while working. Same evening, found one near the shoe rack. 3 cockroaches in the space of around 36 hours sounds a little frightening.

Should I take this as something serious and call the exterminator? Or should I just go to the supermarket and get some supplies myself like Black Cap? Or could these be one offs as I have been away for a long time and now will go away as I start to use the drains and all? Appreciate all advice.

Edit: Just realised I left a huge cardboard box while away and saw that can attract cockroaches too. Going to dispose of that asap.

  1. Best case.
Washing machine bro wandered up the pipes.
Shoe closet bro followed you in the front door. They are fast.
Desk one. Maybe a windows been partially opened in that room…

Were they all dark color and decent size or shiny brown and smaller.

We only use the front door on a daily basis. If we open a window it’s opened fully so the mesh screen actually seals at the edges.
I use the monthly spray thing heavily outside the front door and have a few caps there and a couple more under kitchen counters which we don’t need quite frankly..

  2. You know what they say… if you see one, you have one hundred. Be cautious and get a big box of ブラックキャップ, leaving them everywhere especially at ingress points.

  3. Get a bunch of black caps to kill them and some sticky traps to monitor the situation. Once they stop appearing in the sticky traps you can worry less.

If you want to be more aggressive, you can also buy boric acid powder and sprinkle that behind and under furniture (fridge, couch, cabinets, etc).

  4. The cockroaches were probably already there before you left for your holiday. Being gone for two months meant no noise or big vibrations, so the existing cockies felt bold enough to come out and party.

Before going on holiday, I always give the kitchen a good clean, get rid of any residual oil around the stove and range hood, throw away all trash.

Black caps and clean the kitchen spotless should be enough.

  5. If it’s available, try Blattanex by Baygon. It even kills the tiny, hard to kill kind of cockroach. Roaches also hate the smell of mint and citronella.

  6. I must admit this is the thing I fear the most about leaving for a long time 😔
