I want to help my friend to have a working visa from our small company (family business). What would be my easiest option to do so?

Context, my friend is currently working here in Japan as a “farmer” under technical intern training program (TITP). He’s on his last year (2/3 years) contract at the moment.

I’m a Japanese citizen (technically half Japanese), only moved here in Japan after finishing my education from my home country (Philippines). My nihongo is on the low conversational side only (maybe N4 level minus the kanji. No formal study, just self taught). I’m stating this because I might not be able to do much of providing the needed documents on my own.

I’m working and helping on our small company (less than 10 people in total) under the construction industry.

I asked my father (mainly the one managing the company) if we can help my friend and provide him a working visa to work with us on our business and he said yes. But unfortunately he also said that if the process will be inconvenient and burdensome, I might as well just forget about it.

The job we would be offering to my friend is mostly him helping and assisting on the day to day operation of the company/on site. Probably on the same level of trainee (TITP) but will be better in terms of compensation and salary.

My question is what’s the best and easiest way I can help my friend to have a working visa from our company? I believe my father will have no issue providing all the necessary documents needed for it but if it will be a long and difficult process, he might not actually go for it.

Is there an institution that can help us do this easily? What process should we expect? Would this be expensive? Anyone have a similar experience on providing a work visa to a friend?

  2. The requirements (both for the sponsoring organization and the individual being sponsored) will vary by the specific work you’re looking to have this person do. One of the questions that you’d need to answer as the sponsoring organization is why do you need to hire a foreigner at all? What special skills are you looking for that are difficult to find in the domestic workforce? What evidence can this person present to prove that they are trained and/or experienced in the skills that you require for your business?

As long as the reason you’re working to get him a visa is valid (as in, you’re not saying he’ll work for you but he secretly isn’t), the best thing to do is to reach out to an immigration lawyer and discuss what is required for the visa you’re targeting. Honestly, you shouldn’t take this kind of burden without sound legal council.
