Does anyone in Kyoto play MTG?

I just moved here but don’t speak Japanese well enough to go to the Friday Night Magic events. It would be cool to play!

  1. There are quite a few people around the shops but they mostly play standard. I used to play vintage and standard but didn’t keep up with the metas so Im not sure what’s out there now.

Also we have hareruya in Osaka which is pretty accessible. I’ve never played there but I’ve bout some cards that I needed urgently (they are overpriced compared to EU market).

  2. Playing Magic is a great way to practice Japanese, whatever your level is.

You get to hang out with people, and they don’t need to resort to questions such as “where are you from”, etc.

  3. Hareruya in Osaka is gonna be the beacon of mtg in the region. Tons of smaller card shops with more sporadic schedules in Kyoto/Osaka, but hareruya will have tourneys in all formats popping multiple times a day. Very used to seeing foreigners as well. The Osaka shop even used to have foreign workers on staff, though I haven’t been to the shop recently to see if that’s still the case
