Paramedics in Japan?

In the US, there are basically two types of emergency aid workers that respond to the scenes of accidents, emergencies, etc; Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics (different levels of training).

In doing a little reading, it appeared that in Japan, the Paramedic title can cover a number of different jobs inside and outside the hospital. What are the guys that respond to the scenes of accidents, etc, called?

Thanks

  1. a shot in the dark but I think they’re called 救急隊員/救急救命士 and a google image search confirms it. scope is emergency response, life sustenance until the hospital
