How to Work a US Remote Job While at a Japanese Company?

Hello,
I’ve seen variations of this question asked, but nobody in my exact situation, and nothing in the wiki, so I figured I’d ask here.
I will be moving to Japan next year under an International Relations/Engineering/etc. work visa. I currently reside in the US, working a remote side job doing copywriting (a category that falls under my visa type). I am a freelance contractor for them, and they have other workers in different countries in Europe, so me being in Japan won’t be an issue for them. My Japanese company doesn’t have any clause saying I can’t have another job, so theoretically it would be okay with them.
My main question would be, is there any sort of form or anything I would have to fill out to let immigration know I have this other job type, or would I have to get separate permission from another entity? Or would I be fine as long as I file all my taxes accurately come tax season?
The Japanese job isn’t paying much, so I don’t think I would be able to survive without another job…
Thanks in advance!

  2. Arguably you would need to apply for permission to engage in activities outside the scope of your status of residence even if the actual work covered by your current status. I’ve heard that your existing status covers only domestic employment so the side gig working remotely wouldn’t be covered.
Don’t forget as well that income generated from work you do while in Japan is considered domestically sourced income. Which means you will owe taxes on this income, even if the money never enters Japan.
Also if this side gig is earning you as much or more than your day job immigration may decide that your primary job is not your primary purpose and begin the process of revoking your status of residence.
