How can I search for WORD FAMILIES in japanese?

I’d like to search for families of words related to each other (not by kanji, but by sound).

eg. perro, perrito, perrera

in japanese, it would be: yuki, yukidaruma

what do I need to put in google to search this? or any website good for it?

thanks

  1. You mean homophones? And words including that sound but with different meaning? Try search かな of the word you’re looking for in an online dictionary, I think that’s probably the easiest way.

  2. Don’t know about word families, but the word for etymology is 語源、and you can get a lot of milage from just searching that plus the word you’re interested in.

  3. Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I’m going to use a bit of everything I’ve seen here. 🙂

Searching through kana, or romaji (I forgot I could do that) is helpful. It’s not what I was looking for but I can use that instead to make groups of words.

    eg.
