I ran across a[dog (now with pic)](https://imgur.com/YkDAhke) [here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/N39WkMYkpSEtXfYo7) about 30 minutes ago.
It looked accustomed to humans (came up to about 5 feet away before backing off), but was dirty and thin. I have a picture, but I can’t get uploading working from my phone.
In the US, I’d post on nextdoor, Craigslist and a few other places, but I don’t know where people would look in Japan (or if they’d just call police/some other service).
Does anyone have any advice? I’m happy to do some work (post/phone/etc) to help reconnect him/her with their owner.

You’ve come to the right place to report this.

I’d probably start with a police box, but if there’s (hopefully) a chip, you’ll need to go to a vet to get it scanned. I don’t think the cops will do that – I’m really not sure what they’ll do.

Congrats, u have a dog now
A Twitter post detailing a missing dog, with a hashtag about a dog, something simple like #犬 or #いぬ, would probably get a bunch of attention.
I would be wary of approaching a wild animal if you’re not trained and equipped. Best thing you can do is call animal control.
Use food to lure it in. Or if it’s too scared, put some food down so it gets a taste, then comes to you for more.
There is a cat shelter that I volunteer with based in Kyoto. They help any animal they can though and have even trapped and treated tanuki. You can try contacting them.

There’s a Facebook group called Animal Refuge Kansai. I don’t know much about them, but they may have some suggestions.
