Grocery store sushi

I think my local grocery store is undefeated for the title of the best grocery store rolls… who can compete?!

Also anyone know what a roll like this is called? Trying to track my diet/nutrition.

  1. Grocery store sushi is underrated tbh. Used to live next to a Kroger and they had some competitive sushi

  2. Double layers of rice! Crazy technique, I’ve never seen that before — they’re thin and there’s extra fish, so the ratio is still probably perfect. Whoever made this seems to really care about their craft

  3. How’s the rice? That’s usually what’s the worst about grocery store sushi in my area. If they get it right then it’s pretty damn good!

  4. I would call this a Double Salmon Roll, as it looks to have twice the Salmon I would expect in a standard roll.

As for Grocery Store Sushi. It really depends on who makes it. The grocery chain here, 1 store has terrible rolls, rice packed TOO tight, another store 10 miles down the road, great rolls that melt in the mouth. Same store chain, same ingredient source, just different chefs and their techniques.

  5. I knew a guy who worked in a whole foods shop as a sushi chef who managed to make enough money to open up in an airport. I think he’s doing pretty well now, hopefully more than he was making before. Some grocery store sushi ain’t half bad but his was gourmet.

  6. Looks awesome! Maybe a double salmon roll? It’s probably at least 500 cals though because it’s so big.

  7. Wow looks legit. Wish our local store had this level of care and attention to their rolls.

How much if I may ask?

  8. Is that salmon wrapped in rice, wrapped in seaweed, wrapped in rice, and then wrapped in salmon?

  9. Some grocery stores have some great rolls especially if they have a deli that makes them fresh every day, and where I live they have a place called Tokyo mart in one of the stores where you even get poke bowls for $10

  10. My grocery store sushi is on par with this. They legitimately care about what they put out and if the type you are looking for isn’t there, they’ll make it for you on the spot. What I enjoy most about them is the amount of spice in there spicey rolls. They’re not wimpy like I’ve seen at the local sushi places.

  11. When I was living in Bangkok, there was an 8-story insanely huge mall near me with a grocery store in the basement, and they would do half-off chirashi bowls and sashimi at the end of the night.

So I’d hang out on my computer writing or making lesson plans, drinking cannabis coffee, then grab a crazy amount of sushi for like 10$ and go home to pig out. I’m deffo more than happy with just a ton of fish over any sort of nigiri or maki.

… But that said, these are the best looking grocery store rolls I think I’ve ever seen!! You’re lucky haha

  12. well damn, what’s the grocery store? hahaha

edit: nyc >:( i aint gon find that here in california unless i look really hard

  13. In Pittsburgh we have Asian Andy in the grocery store in the strip. Dude makes these PHAT rolls and has cool nonstandard stuff, like kiwi tuna

  14. Bro!! And they’re no mayo based sauce or cream cheese. That looks fucking amazing.

  15. Orange Blossom Roll.

Depends on the location, but in California, it’s quite common for an orange blossom roll to contain salmon and avocado on the inside along with a salmon exterior.

  16. I very often buy grocery store sushi like this, and then top it off with grocery bought sushi grade tuna, salmon, eel, fish eggs, etc. Once in a while I make my own sushi rice at home. And I very often [order the real deal wasabi rhizomes](https://hmbwasabi.com/product/wasabi-rhizomes/) delivered to the house. That fake painted green horseradish doesn’t cut it for me.

  17. That looks great for grocery store sushi. Publix does rolls and such like this that are pricy and inferior. Id rather just get take out from a local sushi place, for similar prices and better quality. $16 for all that good looking salmon? I’m in.
