Strange phone number, caller unidentified

Okay, I’m starting to get these phone calls that seem to originate from overseas, possibly India, Turkey, or somewhere else in SE Asia. The number starts with a 181, which is the Japan code, then followed by a 9, then another 8 numbers. Googling the numbers shows nothing in Japan at all. They’re definitely not from the US, because those would be 10 digits. I looked up countries with 9-digit phone numbers, basically SE Asia, including India and Turkey.

The first time was 4 days ago. I picked it up, it was a robotic Japanese voice saying something about “your phone line bill” yada yada, “you will be connected to an operator shortly.” I hung up and blocked the number after trying to research it.

Then just now I get another one, from a different number, but the same 1819 combination. I didn’t pick it up. So, any idea what these are? Am I safe to block them, or do I need to listen to the operator? Please help, I don’t want to change my number.

  1. I’ve been living here for many years, and I just never pick up when I don’t know the number. Life is good.

  2. Yeah, I got one, too. As far as I’m concerned any number I don’t recognize I won’t answer, and they should leave a coherent message clearly stating who they are and why they are calling.

Lots of text messages claiming I was “not home for a delivery and to click this link” lately, too. Lol, no. I’m dumb but I’m not stupid.

  3. I got two at the exact same time, I also googled them and one was from saipan and the other maybe turkey. This was also a week ago.
