Hi, i’m traveling to Tokyo between Dec 30th and Jan 2nd this year. I have activities planned for the days but would like to know if my plan would suit the holiday season there. I read a lot of articles and posts but if you have any advice please feel free to let me know! Also, I have assumed that if I book something, I will be fine in terms of the holiday season not affecting my plans. Plans below:
Dec 30th (Half day):
– Check in to hotel (Shinjuku)
– Shibuya Exploration
– Shibuya Street Kart (Booked)
– Some club
Dec 31st:
– Teamlabs (Booked)
– Akihabara explore for a while
– Ginza for dinner (Booked)
– Tokyo Tower
– Meiji Jingu – Midnight
– Maybe another club after?
Jan 1st:
– Asakusa explore
– Roppongi Hills and Sumida Park
– Shinjuku explore
Jan 2nd:
– Harajuku Explore
– Maybe something in Minato City?
– Haneda Airport by late afternoon
Thanks in advanced for all recommendations 🙂

What time are you arriving in you hotel in Shinjuku?
Note takes about 30 mins from Shinjuku to Shibuya station…mostly due to all the walking at the station tunnels to get to your platform
if you have not booked hotels look into Hotel Groove Shinjuku- the building it is in Kabuchiko Tower has a club but check the schedule of shows as its not open everyday when we passed by
Dec 31st…. that seems a lot for a hoilday day. Im not sure how trains will run on that day but I assume many would want to go to the temples at Midnight it will be crazy busy. Just double check schedules. Sjops do have websites you can see what thier holiday hours are
if you havent booked hotels you really need to do so NOW. New years is one of the biggest holidays in Japan and hotels are normally booked solid pretty early.
if you intend to actually visit Asakusa for the shrine on that day, expect to spend most of the day in line. other attractions and shops will be open but extremely busy. its definitely an experience but just forewarning because not all tourists expect it to be too bad.
other than those things to keep in mind this is my kind of itinerary, dont set specific places, just set an area and wander around until you find something cool. enjoy!
