So my visa is expiring in a few months, and I’m planning on quitting my job and moving back home.
The issue is, I had heard a lot of people saying it’s a simple process to change from a working visa to a 3-month tourist visa before leaving the country. So I booked my tickets out of Japan about a month after my current visa expires, thinking I had more than enough time.
However, upon further research, it seems like the easy change to the 3-month visa is only if you complete your working contract.
As I’m quitting, and ‘breaking’ my contract, I’ve read that I will only get approved for a 30-day tourist visa.
So, my questions are;
1) Do you know if this information is accurate? Have any of you quit your job and still been given a 3-month tourist visa?
2) Also, if I am approved for a 30-day tourist visa, would my new visa begin immediately (from the date of the immigration office visit), or when my current working visa expires?
Thank you!

What kind of visa do you have, specifically?
