Not activating Working Holiday Visa on first entry

I’m about to get a Working Holiday visa soon because I’m approaching the upper age limit. However, I am not able to activate the visa until about September next year due to work and private reasons.

Furthermore, I want to do a touristic visit to Japan in spring next year (I’m from a country that does not require a visa for short-term touristic stay). Is it possible to state on arrival that I do not want to activate the Working Holiday visa right now, but on a later visit?

Thanks in advance!

  2. Fairly sure the visa is valid only for 1-3mo after issuing, thus, your plan is not going to work at all.

  3. I’m not completely sure what agreement Japan has with whatever country you’re from, but as far as I know, almost all Japanese visas have a three month expiry date on them. If you don’t enter the country within that window, you’re out of luck.

When you get your visa, be sure to check the eligibility dates on it.

    > A1: The period of validity of a single-entry visa (that becomes invalid as soon as once you enter Japan) is basically three months. Enter Japan within three months of the issuance of the visa. If you wish to postpone your travel for longer than three months, you will be required to make another visa application.
