I came across this sentence “どこで見つけたのですか” and I’m wondering if anyone can clarify the purpose of “の” here – is it supposed to be just emphasizing that we’re asking for an explanation, or is this tied to the verb and nominalizing it? Thanks for the help!

It’s effectively a nominalization – but it has a specific purpose – see [https://youtu.be/lYvIOi8Q3I8?si=qoMvQ5GB-Vz2VpdE](https://youtu.be/lYvIOi8Q3I8?si=qoMvQ5GB-Vz2VpdE)
asking for an explanation.
closest semantic equivalent in English is “where is it that you found it?”
