I know how to adopt a cat in the US but I’m worried about being allowed to adopt. I know they often get put down and I can’t go a long time while being away from my cat.
Look up info on moving to Japan with a cat. It’s a minimum 6 month process iirc, either via documentation in the home country or else in quarantine within Japan (expensive and sad). If you live in Japan I strongly recommend reconsidering this plan, or at least calculating the full cost and timeline required to do this well before actually acquiring a cat
This sounds like someone who hasn’t really thought things through. I had a dog from another country here. Whilst my gf at the time did most of the paperwork and stuff, it’s not a fast process. Not something you can just fill out and “poof” the cat gets in.

You need have several rabies shots and get a blood test. The entire process will take you 8 months.
