Living temporarily at a friend’s place.

Hello Reddit,

I am supposed to arrive in Japan next year.

A friend can welcome me to their place while I look for my own place, but I don’t think they will tell their landlord as it is temporary. It would be around a month.

Is it risky to do ?

Can I register that place to the ward office as it will be me temporary address even though I have no proof of living there ?

  2. The risk depends entirely on your friend’s landlord. If they’re comfortable with it then go for it.

I don’t recall ever having to show any sort of “proof” that I’m living at the address that I registered, although you will need to make sure you can receive mail. Don’t forget to register your new address when you move, and if your new place is a different city you’ll have to do the moving out notice at the old city before registering at the new city.
