I have a Notepad file made with a Japanese locale, which shows random symbols when opened on my PC (tried Locale Emulator and Notepad++, but those didn’t help).
I would be grateful if someone could help me opening it and saving its content into a Word document instead.
I don’t suppose it counts as a translation request, however, if it is interpreted as such, I’ll be happy to oblige and remove the post.

Can you clarify what encoding the file was saved with? Japanese has Shift-JIS and EUC-JP, as well as various Unicode encodings that support Japanese.
You might have to [add the Japanese IME](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/microsoft-japanese-ime-da40471d-6b91-4042-ae8b-713a96476916) to your computer.
try changing the file encoding with which you load the file, definitely possible in notepad++. the usual one in Japan is not Unicode because that encodes Japanese with 3 bytes per character instead of 2 in the local encodings. shift-JIS is the usual one.
