Upvoted because Go Go Curry, I also always bring the sauce home.
Coco Ichibanya. You can never get enough of their curry.
I went Magurobito Okachimachi like 4 times. Much better than Uogashi Nihon-Ichi for the same price
Kushikatsu Daruma when I was in Osaka! Soooo good!
I’m a local but I tend to hit Yamamotoya Honten in Nagoya for Miso Nikomi Udon. Try it next time you are over
Mos Burger!
Nan Station in Shimokitazawa! We ordered a variety of plates each time, and everything was great.
Kikanbo ramen
7-Eleven
Waco Crepes in Kyoto. Absolutely delicious crepes, savoury or sweet, great service and all gluten free.
Fuwari in Kanazawa.
Yoshinoya a couple times.
There’s a seafood restaurant next to the APA north of Inaricho station called Bibibi that was really good. Super cool place too, has a bunch of gunpla and figures all over the place. The owner, Akira, was super chill too. I went there four times in the two weeks I was there earlier this year.
A small, locals-only sushi spot in Hokkaido. It was literally in a neighborhood and the chef went on to work internationally. I ate sushi there for dinner two days in a row.
Other than that never, there’s just too much amazing food and too many restaurants to return. Maybe if I was there continuously for 3+ weeks but as-is my visits are usually less than a week won’t months or years between. So I prioritize trying new things vs doubling down.
Motomura is definitely one.
Tameikan, Nata de Cristiano (not a restaurant but still), Kitsuneya, Butagumi, and Souden (Kyoto)
More than twice. Bondy, Petit Feu, Tanimoto, Hashiguchi
Sukiya for me. I actually hit Matsuya and Yoshinoya too, but Sukiya is my favorite.
I grew up in Japan, so lots of chains are very natsukashi (spelling?) for me, and I would have loved to have hit Gyoza no Osho a few times, but ran out of time.
Coffee Shop Galant. A kissaten near Ueno station that hasn’t updated its interior since the late 70s/early 80s. They open at 8 and have a passable toast set. 95% of the experience is the atmosphere.
Is this that curry with the giant gorilla logo?
Kikanbo ramen. You’d think it’s all hype with so many youtuber vids on it, but it’s the best ramen i’ve tasted. went back 4 times. I’d go back to japan just to eat that ramen.
Nan Ban Tei in Roppongi has amazing yakitori and it’s pretty much just a little hole in the wall.
Isomaru Suisan!
This great gyudon place in ikebukuro. Every time I go to Japan I visit this restaurant 2-4 times
Lowkey was judging all these chain restaurant answers before I remembered that I went to McDonald’s 3 times last trip because it was so good and convenient hahaha
Sukiya and Sushiro 😂 there was also a konbini-type place right next to Ueno Station that i can’t remember the name of (but it was lovely).
edit: Kitchen Origin! that was the other place.
