Thinking about doing one or two in Tokyo in December with the missus who is missing the old country. Which has the best (most European) atmosphere? Does it matter if you go on a weekend or weekday?
None (that I have been to: Hibiya, Akarenga, Roppongi), they are all a crowded mess. Hours of queues just to get robbed for 2 dl of hot wine flavored water.
Some of the merch and cookies were okay at Hibiya.
The one at Roppongi Hills is organized by the German Embassy and has authentic food.
It is packed to brim though, so try to reserve your tickets in advance and go at a time most would not.
Last the year the one at the Red Brick Warehouses in Yokohama (Akarenga) was very big.
Ooo Yokohama for sure 🫠big red brick building, not Tokyo however
All atrocious and result in MORE homesickness…
That said: weekdays before the mob on week end is a a joke
I can’t recommend a single one. Lived here almost 8 years and been to them all. They’ve just gotten more over crowded by the year and it’s just a waste of time and money.
Hot wine is diluted, food is a 1 hour minimum wait. Then if you get food, good luck finding a table. Navigating to see the options or even enter will take an hour…
Organise an event with friends, go to a park or an illumination, do things yourself and make your own Christmas. A lot more comfortable 🙂
