I’m trying to make a purchase on Apple’s online store with my SMBC debit card and noticed that there was an option for multiple payments. I picked a split payment option and the card wasn’t approved. I’ve been trying to investigate this on my own but I haven’t found much information.
Do I need to contact SMBC themselves to get approval for split payment? Or does anyone know if there’s a specific number of splits I’m allowed to do?

I’ve had the same problem with my Aeon credit card on Apple’s website and I have no idea why. In one case I used a different credit card and in another I bought the product from Yodobashi instead using the same credit card that didn’t work on Apple’s sight. You might also try Paidy. Depending on the product and price, you can do up to 24 payments with Paidy at no interest.
Do debit cards even offer split payments? I was under the impression that as split payments are by definition a credit contract, it’s not possible.
Edit: Yep.
