Pension and health insurance payments

Earlier this year my job contract ended and I was jobless for a month until I got a new job. I had no health insurance for one month (I was abroad as well, and did not have any insurance). I didn’t know I had to enroll in social insurance and pay pension during the time I was unemployed. My visa expires next year… am I gonna get screwed when it comes to renewal time? I have to renew around April time.

I will be ending the contract with my current job and I will start a new job after one month. My new job will provide health insurance. Will I need to return my health insurance card to my previous employer and will the pension payment be an issue?

Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense… How should I go about all this? Would city hall be able to guide me? Thanks!

  1. Have I read this correctly-there 3 jobs involved in this situation? A. The one that ended earlier this year, B. the current one that will be ending soon and C the next one you’re starting in a month?

You say you had no insurance for just one month after job A ended. Does job B provide shakai hoken too? I think you usually provide the next employer with your current shakai hoken details so they can arrange the transfer to them.

Regarding your visa, renewal for work visas requires documents for a. income tax paid on earnings and b. residential tax. At this point, immigration do not check for missed health/pension unless you’re applying for PR. Bear in mind, if you do try to apply for PR down the line, this missed month will likely be reason for rejection.

  2. Just go to the shokuinka at the city hall and explain the situation. They’ll tell you what to do.
