In my home country most Japanese restaurants are just bad imitations owned by Chinese people as they can sell the food at a higher price point than Chinese food.
Yes many Japanese restaurants but mostly owned by locals or non Jap businessmen. Authentic Japanese food is just too expensive for the common folk.
Can confirm. In thailand, which is home to cheap, delicious food. But if you go to any mall for example they’re packed full of expensive, mediocre Japanese restaurants.
In Atlanta, I noticed Gyukaku, Kura Sushi, Kinokunia (book shop, I know). Prices are bad but it’s nice for the availability
They’re all over the city, but there was a downtown stretch of my Canadian home city that was full of sushi restaurants, like 2-4 on every block, which over a couple of years expanded to similar Japanese offerings (pandemic thinned the herd). All run by Chinese & Korean immigrants; they knew sushi was a safe financial bet in a health-conscious multicultural society.
