Got someone else package, what do I do?

I was away from my home for a few days, just returned yesterday, and found an Amazon package that was supposed to be sent to a different address. The shipping label has names, address and everything but no phone number. This is the first time happening to me so I don’t know what to do. I’m not in Tokyo by the way, I’m in Saitama prefecture, though not sure if it makes a difference.

Edit: contacted Amazon. They said they are unable to collect the item, and they will try to fix the problem themselves. They said I am allowed to keep and do whatever I want with the package. Not gonna do anything yet though just in case.

  1. You can start by chatting amazon support and giving them the package ID thats on the box, usually a barcode that looks something like spSD23784289, they will be able to track down who ordered it and tell you what to do with it.

If you can identify who delivered it (japan post/kuroneko/etc) you can also bring it to nearest office of thiers and tell them it isn’t yours and they’ll handle it. If it’s amazon delivery then your only option is their support chat.

  2. I had the opposite a while back. My package was delivered and the confirmation photo in the email was not my house.

Got on Amazon customer support and they sent the driver back to pick it back up and deliver correctly. It took half a day, but i got it

  3. Happened to be once but since the real address was close by I just walked it to the intended recipient and left it at their door.

  4. Came home once to find someone else’s Yamato cool-bin package on my doorstep. Called them but because it sat outside in the heat for so long they told me to just bin it.

  5. I’ve had the opposite happen to me. Amazon got the driver to pick up the package, and then redelivered it to my house.

  6. Amazon will just refund the buyer or sent another one.Time is money for Amazon. They rather let you keep the package than go through all the hassle of contacting a delivery company, have someone pick it, bring it back, open, inspect and check who ordered it.

Especially now on Black Friday. And as you may know, Amazon Warehouses in Japan have severe shortage of manpower.
