Went to Costco near Tsukuba (about an hour outside Tokyo) yesterday and we picked up some sushi! Thought people would find these photos interesting. The larger sushi platter is about $27 and the smaller one is about $13. We had the smaller one with ikura, scallops, an Okinawan fish (I can’t remember the name of) and ika. My nephew (who works in the sushi section) told me Costco was known for their ikura. It was really yummy! They also had a vending machine at the exit that sold dry ice for 100 yen (about $0.70) to keep everything cold.

Took my partner out for fugu dinner on his 40th bday. We also ordered ikura and the owners girted us some otoro, desert brought back from Japan two days prior, and a textile 🥹 The otoro was excellent as was the ikura.

The ikura gunkan itself in my area would be as expensive as the whole box maybe even more. God bless
Nice sushi set for one I see lol.
Why are the signs in English?
I’m fucking jealous
From the ingredients list, the mystery shiromi is すぎ [“sugi”](https://www.itabashi-trading.com/en/food_news/first-arrangement-of-ryukyu-sugi-from-okinawa/#:~:text=Sugi%20is%20categorized%20as%20a,much%20known%20as%20edible%20fish), or cobia in English. Some incredible value there, I’m very jealous!
That ika has such a translucent look – I wonder what it was specifically.
What’s the clear fish in the smaller one?
Yup Costco sushi is a banger.
