I used to live in Yokohama-shi. My vehicle is registered there and my shaken also has my old address.
I moved to Kawasaki-shi. I have updated my Zairyu card, I have changed address in my driver’s license as well. Now my question is: do I need to change address on my Shaken as well?
I may have to collect another shako-shomei for that and that’s an effort that I am not willing to give unless I have to.
UPDATE:
I want to know if I want to do the entire process:
1- getting a parking document from my apartment’s management company.
2- go get a shako shomei.
3- go get juminhyo and inkan shomei.
4- Then apply for address change?
Or the process is simpler than shaken handover. \[the shaken is already under my name and ownership is already mine\]

It is required by law, and the payment slip for the annual vehicle tax will be sent to the old address on the shaken document.
Yep, parking cert, shako shomei from police station, then transport office to apply for a change of address on your shaken shomei.
The shako shomei is the slowest part, as you have to wait for the oinkers to process it. Address change process at the transport office is fast, if not busy and if you know what you’re doing. First time doing it my head exploded when I learned the address had to be written in some weird-ass coded numbers, rather than regular kanji. Whole process is pretty poorly explained – I lucked out by finding someone who took pity on me, but then explained that even locals get confused AF about it all.

mechanic here , it’s legally required but if you can’t find time to go through getting new shakoshoumei and new number plate ect ect, or lazy like me there’s a way around
totally legal I still ride in Hokkaido with my niigata number plate on. even the inspector in my workplace said it’s totally okay. ( I work in a major truck dealership so I can’t go work by my car if it’s illegal)
here’s how to
get the parking document from your management company and keep it with you for just in case.
for the shaken sho they mainly ask you change it because it’s easy to send you the 自動車税 . you can’t renew your shaken without it.
so if you’re not changing the shaken sho/ number plate like me just go to your old prefecture’s website and search for
自動車税 住所変更
after that you’ll receive 自動車税 to your new address even if you don’t change your shaken.
my coworker rides a Kawasaki Ninja 650 here in Sapporo with yamaguchi number plates for years without any problem.
ah do 転居・転送サービス in yubin website too. you’ll receive mail that goes to your old address for a one Year.
but if you have time to go through registering process again I suggest you do it.
