May have just been a cloudy day, but back in the 80’s when I first arrived, the air in Tokyo was really bad. On smoggy days you couldn’t see 1 km and the “days you could see Mount Fuji from Tokyo was in the single digits per year.
The Streetview posted elsewhere shows how clean the air is today.
