Where to live to minimize commute and have access to city center

Me and my wife are moving to Tokyo area for work. The thing is that she will be working in Hiratsuka and me in Akasaka. Which places should we look into to live? Ideally something that doesn’t make the commute crazy for both (1h15m max approx.) and still allows to go to the city center at the end of the work day. It’s been hard to find real estate online. Is this something that only agents can help with?

  1. step1: google map from hiratsuka to akasaka, pick the least transfer route

step2: divide transport time (90min) by half, add it to start point to find midpoint
conclusion: jr Tokaido line, from Shinagawa st.
    westward

Not sure if your budget knows no limit but consider Kawasaki st. , Yokohama st.

  2. Try Shin-Yurigaoka Station. From there you can make it to Hiratsuka Station in 49 min. if you time it right, and to Akasaka Station in 35 minutes.

The stock of available houses is very good in that part of Kawasaki, and the is station very convenient for shopping, etc. (I’m a real estate agent).

  3. Yokohama is the best option – it’s an actual nice place to live and quick (but busy) to get in to Tokyo.
